Dessert Artistry
At The Dessert Room, artistry begins with intention. Each dessert in our tasting menu is selected from standout restaurants and makers across the Netherlands, chosen not simply for flavor, but for the craft, creativity, and care behind it.
Our collaborators bring their own stories, techniques, and sensibilities to the table. We present their work thoughtfully, pairing each course with exceptional ingredients, custom stoneware, and exclusive partnerships that highlight the beauty of the desserts themselves.
Every plate is an invitation to slow down, savor, and experience dessert as an art form in its own right. (And...who doesn't love dessert!).

The Story
The idea for The Dessert Room began on a quiet evening in late autumn, when my ten-year-old daughter had a simple craving for ice cream. She wanted to visit Talamini, our neighborhood ice-cream parlor—and couldn’t understand why it was closed until spring.
Her question, innocent and perfectly timed, rekindled something I had carried with me since my childhood in Chicago: the ritual of going out just for dessert. After weekend dinners, families like mine would head to places like The Zephyr, Buffalo, Lockwood Castle, or Poppin’ Fresh Pies—lively, cozy destinations created solely for the pleasure of something sweet.
It was a ritual I had missed for nearly thirty years of living abroad.
That small moment with my daughter sparked a larger realization. The Netherlands boasts extraordinary fine dining establishments, renowned pastry chefs, and chocolatiers—yet no dedicated space celebrating their craft. No place where dessert takes center stage. No place where the final course becomes the main event.
And so, The Dessert Room was born...a late-night tasting experience created to honor the artistry of Dutch dessert makers, the spirit of indulgence, and the simple joy of ending the night with something sweet.
Each evening in our secret cozy space upstairs at Café Paloma—The Hague's premiere destination for Latin American inspired cuisine—a curated selection of exceptional desserts from the country’s finest restaurants is presented in an intimate setting where twenty-three guests enjoy a three-course dessert menu that changes as our partners create, evolve, and inspire.
From that single innocent question by my young daughter who merely wanted some ice cream grew a new kind of destination—a place where dessert stands alone, where the final course becomes the first reason to go out, and where guests rediscover the pleasure of savoring something sweet, together.
Welcome to The Dessert Room...where every night ends sweetly.
P.S. Have a dessert recommendation from a Dutch restaurant you really love? Then why not drop me a line at richard@dessertroom.nl, I'd love to hear from you.

The Experience
At The Dessert Room, every evening begins the same way: twenty-three guests step through an unassuming doorway upstairs at Café Paloma and enter a world where dessert is no longer an afterthought—it’s the main event.
We curate a three-course tasting drawn from the most exceptional pastry chefs and restaurants of the Netherlands. Each course is presented with intention, served in a warm, intimate room built for conversation, discovery, and indulgence.
The pace is gentle. The atmosphere is low-lit, elegant, and quietly theatrical. Guests savor each creation, learn its story, and enjoy the simple pleasure of setting aside the rest of the evening for something sweet.
Whether it’s a first date, a long-planned evening with friends, or a solitary moment of luxury, The Dessert Room is designed to feel like a secret worth sharing—one that ends long after the last bite.
Exceptional Collaborations
Collaboration is at the heart of The Dessert Room. Every element of our experience is shaped by the talents and passions of local makers who bring their craft to our table.
Our three-course tasting menu is assembled from exceptional restaurants and independent creators across the Netherlands—each contributing a signature dessert that reflects their unique style and story. We pair these offerings with thoughtfully chosen wines, liqueurs, and spirits—some from artisanal producers whose work complements the evening’s flavors.
We are equally proud of our partnership with Persian ceramic artist Sepideh Jahanpanah, whose bespoke stoneware is created exclusively for The Dessert Room. Her pieces—earthy, expressive, and beautifully imperfect—add a tactile sense of place to every course. Select items from her collection will also be available for purchase through our website.
Together, these collaborations form the soul of The Dessert Room: a celebration of craft, community, and the simple joy of sharing something made with care.
Community of Dessert Lovers
The Dessert Room is more than a tasting—it’s a gathering place for people who share a love of great desserts, good company, and the small rituals that make life feel a little richer.
Our guests come from across The Hague and beyond: locals with refined tastes, curious newcomers, and friends-of-friends who heard there was a secret room serving remarkable desserts late on weekend evenings. What unites them is simple: an appreciation for craftsmanship and a desire to slow down for an evening and enjoy something special.
With each seating, our community grows—one conversation, one shared discovery, one unexpected favorite at a time. Whether you’re joining us for your first visit or your tenth, you’re part of a circle of sweet enthusiasts who understand that dessert is more than a course. It’s a moment worth celebrating.
